After Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a roundtable meeting of prominent Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of global tech giants in New York, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai stated that the PM highlighted artificial intelligence (AI) and asked the tech giants to do more in terms of AI so that “it benefits people of India.”
After the meeting, Sundar Pichai emphasised the alignment between Google’s efforts and India’s vision for technological growth, stating, “It is Digital India vision. Prime Minister Modi encouraged us to continue designing and manufacturing in India. We are proud to now have our Pixel phones made in India.”
He highlighted PM Modi’s forward-thinking approach to artificial intelligence, noting, stating, “He’s really thinking about how AI can transform India in ways that benefit its people. He challenged us to explore applications in healthcare, education, and agriculture, while also focusing on the nation’s infrastructure — whether it’s data centres, power, or energy — to support India’s transition.”
Pichai also outlined Google’s commitment to AI expansion in India, saying, “We are proud to be partnering with India. We are making significant investments in AI here and look forward to doing more. Several programs and partnerships are already in place.”
He added that PM Modi has consistently pushed them to do more for India, and now the challenge extends to AI.
“He has a clear vision of the opportunities AI presents but remains focused on ensuring that AI serves the people of India. His leadership is all about making sure AI works for the greater good,” Pichai concluded.
The meeting was held at the Lotte New York Palace Hotel on Sunday during the second day of PM Modi’s three-day US visit. IBM’s CEO Arvind Krishna and Noubar Afeyan, the chairman of Moderna, amongst others attended the meeting.
“Had a fruitful roundtable with tech CEOs in New York, discussing aspects relating to technology, innovation and more. Also highlighted the strides made by India in this field. I am glad to see immense optimism towards India,” PM Modi said in a post on X.
